The Wound Care Center®
Seven million Americans suffer from wounds that refuse to heal. Ohio Valley General Hospital supports one of this region’s oldest and most established Wound Care Centers. Thousands of chronic wounds have been successfully treated here by some of the finest wound care specialists in Western Pennsylvania.
Most wounds heal without special treatment. However, a wound that shows no progress in four weeks or fails to heal completely in eight weeks, requires the attention of our wound care specialists. These wounds are typically associated with complications from diabetes or other vascular disorders, but can also come from pressure sores or ulcers, radiation injury, trauma injury, and gangrene.
Oxygen Heals
The latest advances in wound care include Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). While a patient rests quietly in a lightly-pressurized chamber, the body’s natural healing process is kicked into overdrive by the influx of pure oxygen.
Hyperbaric oxygen, highly favored by recovering professional athletes, helps a variety of conditions, including:
• Necrotizing soft tissue infections
• Osteomyelitis
• Radiation tissue damage
• Diabetic wounds of the lower extremity
• Acute traumatic injury
