Nutrition Services
Ohio Valley General Hospital’s Nutrition Services Department offers patients medical nutrition therapy to help aid and speed their recovery process. Our goal is to serve great-tasting meals that provide each patient with the proper nutrition for his/her condition.
Our hostess will visit each patient daily to review tasty menu options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hostess is patient-focused, well-versed on menu selections, and works in concert with the hospital’s Registered Dietitian to assure that patients are offered food choices that will meet their nutritional needs.
Each patient admitted to OVGH is screened for nutritional risk. When a patient is flagged for nutritional risk, a Registered Dietitian will be assigned to visit within 24 hours to complete a more detailed assessment and prescribe a plan of action that may include diet education, diet modification, supplementation of diet, or the use of alternative forms of nutrition support. Patients suffering from diet-related, long-term illnesses like diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, or cancer are often referred to outpatient services following discharge from the hospital.
