Cataracts: Our Specialty

We specialize in cataract surgery, and our board-certified ophthalmologists perform thousands of vision-restoring surgeries annually.

What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a clouded area in the eye’s lens. Cataracts form as we age, and by age 80 more than half of all Americans will require treatment. Cataracts can also form after other eye surgeries, a physical injury or exposure to radiation, and can even be congenital.

Warning signs of cataracts may include blurry vision, glare from car headlights or double vision. Sunlight or indoor overhead lighting may seem too bright or cause an annoying glare. You may notice that bright colors appear dull.

The Solution: Cataract Eye Surgery

The only effective treatment for cataracts is surgical removal. Cataract surgery is one of the most frequently performed and highly successful surgical procedures in the United States.

Typically, your damaged natural lens can be replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) that will improve your vision dramatically. Advanced technology can also selectively correct problems with near, arms-length, and distant vision.

Most cataract surgery is performed in an outpatient setting. You will be able to go home in a few hours, and resume normal work and recreational activities within a few days.
